Wimax implementation of the government remains determined using the 802.16d standard. This is because the government wanted to encourage local companies to be able to host their own country.

This was conveyed Economic Expert Staff and Partnership Depkominfo Aizirman Djusan, when the Industrial Preparedness in Support of Domestic Implementation of Wimax, at the Shangri La Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (10/12/2009).

According to Aizirman, 802.16d standard allows the implementation of broadband wireless technology using devices that have high levels of domestic content of his (TKDN) greater than 802.16e.

This, he added, is also supported by government policy which requires local content of 40 percent for WiMAX devices.

"If the 16e technology, our local companies will be a guest in his own land," said Aizirman.

In essence, continued Aizirman, the government supports the implementation of 16d Wimax technology because the investment was issued by the government is big enough. Investment, continued Aizirman, has been issued by the government for the purposes of research and development for nearly three years.

"The Internet is indispensable to the Indonesian people to welcome the era of digital telecommunications. With Wimax, Internet penetration is expected to be more accelerated, in addition to other technologies," explained Aizirman.

Added technology can also be used to support e-Government, video streaming, teleconferencing, and other needs as an effort to encourage economic growth.

Standard broadband wireless access (BWA) is now generally accepted and widely used is the standard issued by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) is 802.16 for Worldwide Interoperability for the network Microwave Access (WiMAX). Most foreign countries use the device with a WiMAX 802.16e standard, while Indonesia would prefer to use 802.16d WiMAX standard.o
