Microsoft Offers Office Web App Experiment

Notebooks And Computers - Microsoft launched a preview program for the Microsoft Office Web Apps, the first step of a long road for general release web versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

From now on a limited number of invitations to consumers will be able to try this application, an application designed to compete with Google Apps and other online software. Invitation received from the services of Microsoft Windows Live SkyDrive.

Microsoft released a formal application in July at Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans. At that time, Microsoft said that this software will enter the stage of a preview in September, a beta phase at the end of the year, and will generally be used at the beginning of 2010.

"Preview the beginning of the program is designed to gather feedback from consumers to its official release. After this stage, we (Microsoft) will continue to develop Office Web Apps, providing the beta stage and officially release it next year, and regularly developed this service based on responses from the users, "said Michael Schultz, Marketing Director of Microsoft's Office Services, in a question & answer on the Microsoft website.

Microsoft says customers can try out the beta version of this application at microsoft.com / Office 2010.

Not included in the preview is OneNote Web App, which will be available in the next stage, according to Microsoft. The next version will integrate with Microsoft Office 2010 software for desktop computers.

After the official release next year, Office Web Apps will be offered in three ways: to users of Windows Live, the Microsoft Office 2010 users desktop, and through Microsoft Online Services.

Microsoft intends to create an Office Web Apps available for PC and Mac and supports IE, Firefox, and Safari.
